Hopefully not During Meetings

Workers waste more than two hours a day on average by surfing the Web, conducting personal business, chatting with co-workers, and just zoning out, according to an online survey conducted by AOL and Salary.com.

Record all Presentations

The advantages of recording all conference presentations can't be overlooked. Particularly if you use your own equipment, the cost is nearly negligible, while the benefits abound:

* You get to review what was said and maintain the recording in your archives.

* The recording may be sellable.

* A transcript of the recording may be sellable.

Such considerations need to be cleared with the speakers in advance. Many will be amenable, and will allow such recording based on negotiation, perhaps at no extra fee. Some simply ask that they get a copy. Obviously, any recordings containing presentations not worth retaining can simply be discarded. Sometimes, organizations witness fabulous presentations that represent landmarks for their members, but unfortunately, the presentations were not recorded

Meet in a Big Room!

A recent article in BusinessWeek reveals that thirty percent of white-collar workers still have private offices, according to a poll of 9,300 people by office furniture maker Steelcase. However the typical office has shrunk. It was about 16 by 20 feet a few years ago; it's about 8 by 10 today.

So, 320 square feet versus 80 square feet. For meetings then, choose larger rooms. People in tiny cramped offices will appreciate it!

Meetings: All Business is OK

Americans schedule an average of 14 vacation days a year, the average Englishman schedules 24. Americans typically don't use 3 of those days, giving back time to their employers. So, perhaps holding meetings at posh resorts is not necessary.
